Best albums i discovered this year.
1. midlake – bamnan and slivercork // this album is spectacular. when i meet these guys, i will shake their hands, maybe even hug them. the songs are lazy and happy, making you smile at the absurdity of the lyrics and music. go buy this album now if you haven’t already.
2. lovedrug – pretend you’re alive // i’ve seen these guys twice this year live. the passion and feeling that oozes from them as they play fills the audience. may i exude that kind of energy one day. there is not one bad song on this album.
3. autolux – future perfect // i may have discovered this late last year, but does it matter? i got the priviledge of seeing them open for the Ravonettes (sp?) several months ago. half of the crowd left after Autolux played. why stay? the music is haunting, the beats are almost mechanical. it’s what you need to be listening to right now.
4. sufjan stevens – Illinoise // beautiful. this is like a movie soundtrack, except for the state of Illinois.
5. sigur ros – takk… // speaking of soundtracks, these kids do it right. after listening, i think i may believe in fairies as well.
6. doves – some cities // i think it’s their best album yet.
7. fiona apple – extrordinary machine // not as good as her previous album, but real good.
Others that didn’t make the cut, but were really good: Arcade Fire – Funeral, Kanye West – Late Registration, Death Cab for Cutie – Plans, Coldplay – X&Y, Stars – Set Yourself on Fire

to restart the novel
This summer, i decided to write a novel. i spent several months working on it, and i finished the first draft of the novel a couple of months ago. Upon discussing it with some friends, and having one friend whom i trust very much read it, i realized that i’m going to have to rewrite it. The ideas in the novel are keepers, for the most part, but the language needs a serious overhaul. Getting started is not going to be easy.
