more recording

Posted in lowercase collective by sh4wn on the January 31, 2006

if all goes well, i’ll be recording vocals tomorrow (wednesday, for those keeping score). what this means is that we’re that much closer to having new music readily available to those who want it.

here are the songs:

i am the bees
r0b0ts!
i heard the orchestra
i’ve got nothing to say

we’re also putting together some new songs for our upcoming shows. we’re in a booking frenzy right now, and we’re adding new shows all of the time.

shows

i don’t watch much tv. i have very basic cable, and i don’t have tivo or a dvr. but i do have a vcr, which i use to record Scrubs and Love Monkey. these shows are good. the genius behind Scrubs is really worth more than i can express in a small post, but if you’re not watching it, i really think you should.

Love Monkey is a music lover’s dream show. plus, if you used to watch Ed, you get the pleasure of watching Tom Cavennah in action again. the show is about the music and the music industry, plus it has the somewhat awkward dating elements in it that make most shows of its nature what they are.

They are both on Tuesday nights.  Except for tonight, because apparently every station has to have the president on it, talking about stuff and things.  oh well.

lowercase collective in the studio

we’re recording 4 new songs.  we spent all of sunday recording, and we were very pleased at what was accomplished.  we also moved on to the next stage of battle of the bands when we played at Hair of the Dog on Friday night.  We now are playing Wednesday, March 29th, at 8pm at the Exit/In.  fun times.

so i said

so i said
‘i feel like growing a beard’
and the children laughed
and threw gum at me
so i ate them
like i would a burrito
smothered in a warm red sauce
wrapped in a giant tortilla
sprinkled with melty cheese
garnished with lettuce and sour cream

in the background
a wolf howled
a choir sang of the city
while the Queen of a foreign land
drank tea

into the studio

Posted in lowercase collective by sh4wn on the January 11, 2006

lowercase collective will be heading into the studio next weekend (Jan 22).  we’ll be recording 3 or 4 songs with my old friend Rob Burrell.  He’s won some grammys.  He’s good.

We also have a show on Jan 20th, 9pm, at Hair of the Dog.  If you intend on coming, please get a ticket from me before the show.  The cost is $10.  i think it’s $15 at the door or some such thing.

We’re looking at booking some shows.  If you hear of any bills we can get on, or anything of the like, please let me know.

the films of 2005 in review

Posted in movies by sh4wn on the January 4, 2006

And now my thoughts and scoring of the films of 2005.

Crash – 9.5 out of 10

Sin City – A

Batman Begins – 6 out of 7 and the best superhero film of the year.

The Wedding Crashers – yes. i bought it.

March of the Penguins – best film about nature that i saw this year. 2 flippers up.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – 20 out of 25 Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, including cheese flavored.

Sky High – E on a scale of A-Z. much better than the trailers made it out to be.

A History of Violence – 2 broken thumbs up

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – 4 golden tickets (5 were handed out)

Mr. and Mrs. Smith – 83%

Constantine – ***1/2 out of *****

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – well excecuted. i dozed off though. 7.5 out of 10.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith – III

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Mars with Mercury being best, Pluto being worst (i thought parts were brilliant, parts disappointed very much)

Four Brothers – four

The 40 Year-old Virgin – 31 out of 40

Thumbsucker – one thumb up

The Exorcism of Emily Rose – 3 1/2 out of 5 crusafixes

Bewitched - B-

The Island – i give it a green on the roygbiv scale. not bad, though. worth renting.

War of the Worlds – so so.

Fantastic Four – i would pluck out only Four hairs from my face to see this movie (but considering i thought it would be horrible, it ended up not being too bad.)

Stay - had much potential. didn’t really live up to it. garder snake on the reptile scale.

Hustle & Flow – d.j. qualls was in this film. i went to high school with him. i really like Terrence Howard (see Crash). 2 and 1/2 pimp slaps out of 5.
