Above is a great typography video rendering of Vince Vaughn from Wedding Crashers.  GREAT.

Here is a really nice collection of typography posters I saw today.

This is a copy of Radiohead at the Grammys with the USC Marching Band.

Ah, Saturday morning. And Politics.

i’m eating a toasted almond coconut scone from the locally owned bakery, Sweet 16th (ironically located on 16th St.), which is also a block or so from my house.  i love being able to walk to locally owned places in my neighborhood.

As many of you know, politically, i’m an Independant.  But i’ve finally decided to have a taste of the Obama KoolAid, listening to a speech Barack Obama made yesterday coupled with a Q&A session with the audience, and i liked it.  i KNOW he’s a politician, and i really can’t stand politicians in general, but of everything i’ve heard to date by any presidential candidate since i’ve been able to vote, i really liked what he said.  Will he be able to take action on all of the things he said he would?  Probably not.  But at least he’s moving in a direction that i think is worthy of my support. AND, purely from a graphic design standpoint, Obama’s campaign kicks ass.  Look at that logo.

A poster by Scott Hansen (who does amazing art work, btw):

i work in the Internet industry (graphic/web designer) (no, i won’t make a free site for you), and McCain’s stance on Net Neutrality basically tells me that he wants me to lose my job.  That may be drastic, but that’s how i feel.  i could go on and on about Net Neturality, but you’ll have to have a look for yourself if you’re interested.  For the record, McCain is not only against Net Neutrality, he’s very vocally against it.  AND there were rumors a while ago that he had an affair with a Comcast lobbiest.  Not that those rumors are true, but it makes you wonder, huh?

Arrested Development is/was an amazing show.  i’m halfway through season 2 at the moment.

Sarah Palin looks like Tina Fey, and i REALLY hope that SNL gets Fey to play Palin every week.

You can’t always believe everything that you hear/read/see, especially on the internet, but sometimes you can believe some stuff.  Hmm.  All politicians have skeletons, i guess.  Even if some of this stuff isn’t true, what if some of it is?  I’m not saying i believe any of it, but there it is for you to decide.  (it’s about Sarah Palin, btw.)

As an independant, i really want people to just vote for who represents you.  We all vote based on what’s going on in our lives or what we think is best for the country.  i WILL say this: i do like both candidates and their running mates better than i liked either candidate/rm from 2004.  Of course, i voted independant that year.

Wow.  This has turned into a political post.

the king plays pinball with spock, who’s chillin in his crib.

first of all: star trek cribs and other in a series of commercials on G4. go watch these now. all of them. i think there’s 4.

More good: pinball song, this variation of the pinball song, and 321 Contact.

and now…

4 reasons why Burger King is the fastfood leader:

1. their fries are crunchy and delicious, and the best fries in the fasfood market.
2. the package design is better than anyone’s out there.  take a look at the cup you’re drinking out of next time you’re there and then think about the other guys.
3. their commercials are bizarre and, at least of late, have been more original than the competition (think of the king sneaking up on people, scaring them while trying to give them tasty food items vs. think outside the bun).
4. i just purchased 3 video games for the 360 for $10.99, including a game where you sneak up on people to give them food.  they have characters like the Subserviant Chicken.  and you can be the king.

i had been looking for this for a while, and my pal josh found it for me.

Don Hertzfeldt of Bitter Films made this insane animated movie.  It’s sick and dark and twisted and completely bizarrre.  you’ll probably like it.

more studio updates and Daniel Ellsworth

we’re a few songs into the vocal parts, which we will finish today along with everything else. it’s been really good and i only expect it to continue. Rob Burrell (our producer and magic crafter) is amazing and really knows how to get the most out of a performance.

in other news, Daniel Ellsworth’s album just came out. i did the cover art for it, and he brought me a copy yesterday. it really looks good. sounds good too. be sure to check it out.

Questionable Content

Posted in art/design, the internets by sh4wn on the May 27, 2006

i'm completely addicted to Questionable Content.  It's a webcomic that has it's roots in indie culture.  It is many times, er, questionable in subject matter, but it is very funny.  The beautiful thing at this point, is that there are well over 600 comics, and i'm starting at the beginning, so i'm only half way through.  I've read several other webcomics before, and got bored after a few weeks, but this one has promise.  Mega Tokyo was one that i followed for a while, and Apple Geeks is great, too.  There are many other that you can find as you read through the Questionable Content site.  The writer/drawer, Jeph Jacques, sometimes has guest drawers fill in for him, and you can see their styles and follow their comics as well.

One thing that i've really enjoyed is watching Jeph's drawing style get better as the comic progresses.  i try to not get too caught up in the story to appreciate the drawing style.  He uses a Wacom tablet to draw all of the comics, which is very cool.  i'm most jealous of his skills, wishing that was a talent of mine.  Maybe i'll send him an email and see if he can mention lowercase collective in his comic.  Heh.

Amazing Artist

This guy makes unbelievable art. He has a blend of video game influenced art, along with other pop culture references, including disney and some other things.  Some of the stuff is reminicent of Tim Burton's stuff.  He even does grafitti.  Purchase prints.  Support the arts.
